20 February 2019: The German cabinet passes a new „strategy on reducing food waste”.

The goal 12.3 set in the agenda 2030 is very ambitious and can only be achieved nationally with all stakeholders along the food supply chain. The new strategy is up to coordinate this process and should form transparency and coherence with the European and international levels. Currently there is not enough detailed data to quantify the specific amount of food wasted in the different sectors. For gaining and evaluate data and to determine the success of reducing measures, a paper about indicators and measures is being worked on across departments. A status quo analysis, requiring data from 2015, is used to find a baseline for further research. The baseline is going to be presented in June 2019.
