WP3 Sustainability assessment

The main aim of WP3 is to assess food waste management solutions recommended from WPs 1 and 2. This will be done using Life Cycle Assessment and similar methodologies to calculate the environmental but also the economic and social impact from different actions preventing or valorising the food waste. These actions could aim to, but are not limited to, reduce the inflow of food, to donate surplus food or to recycle wasted food more efficiently. By assessing these actions, the overall sustainability performance of different actions can be evaluated and actions can be ranked based on efficiency. However, since different types of waste reducing measures will include a variety of strengths and shortcomings, the limitations and combinatory effects of the different waste reducing measures will also be analysed. In this way we can achieve a better understanding on what actions food services should take in order to reduce food waste in the most sustainable way.
